8mm TO DVD

Details : Standard 8mm , regular 8mm or double
8mm as it sometimes called came into being in the late 1930s and
was popular through to the late 1970s. Prior to being shot and
developed it was known as "double 8mm" was 25 ft in length and the
film maker would expose one side of the film take the film out of
the camera (using a black bag to avoid "fogging" the film) and
expose the other side of the film and then send it to Kodak to
process and the film would come back to owner as a 50 ft roll of
film running approximately 4 minutes. STD 8mm film had a horizontal
resolution of approximately 1500 lines and the ratio of grain to
frame was quite large and was prone to under exposure. STD 8mm film
was sold as silent stock but on occasions some avid film makers
would apply a magnetic sound stripe post filming.

VHS/SVHS/VHSC TO DVD

Details : VHS (Video Home
System) was established in 1976 by JVC and was embraced by
the majority of the manufacturers to become the standard for
domestic recording of video images. The horizontal resolution of
VHS by today's standards was quite modest at 240 lines, but enjoyed
an enduring following from consumers as a reliable source to
capture TV programmes and record family events on camcorders. Early
recording onto video tape was very cumbersome with the need for a
separate camera and portable VCR. These soon were replaced by
camcorders and with the advent of VHSC tapes, these camcorders
dramatically reduced in size, and were more user friendly
especially in low light, when CCD's replaced tubes as the industry
standard. By the mid 1980s SVHS had been developed with a
capability of 400 lines horizontal resolution to cater for the semi
professional film maker and this format ran concurrently with VHS
until both were made redundant by advent of DVD.
Cineclair Productions P/L. have comprehensive facilities to
transfer all formats of VHS/SVHS/VHSC to DVD-R including full
chaptering menu creation. In addition with older tapes it is
important to correct for chroma instability and dropouts as these
can't be corrected once the DVD is created.
